On Tuesday, June 26, Jordan Spieth attended his AJGA event, the Under Armour® / Jordan Spieth Championship presented by American Campus Communities. It is the fifth consecutive row that Spieth has hosted an AJGA event, and the second time it has been at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. Each year he attends the event to interact with players and conduct a clinic. Junior Golf is one of the four mission pillars of the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation, and the commitment to the AJGA has been an important avenue for Spieth and the Foundation to continue promoting the game of golf and increasing its reach and accessibility to all youth interested.
During the first part of the day, Spieth met with several national media outlets, including the Today Show and Golf Channel. Spieth also had meetings with Under Armour and spent some time with the AJGA and local Dallas media talking about the event day how special it was for him to have this annual event. Spieth referenced the role AJGA had in his career path as well as personal growth.
Another great event in the books! Thanks to Under Armour and AJGA for the fantastic partnership. We saw some really strong talent this year, and maybe one of these days I can win my own closest to the pin contest!
The clinic for tournament participants and spectators was hosted by Golf Channel’s Rex Hoggard. Players could ask questions and see Spieth hit various shots. Each year during his clinic Spieth puts his game up against four juniors who are playing in the tournament field in a closest to the hole competition. Spieth laughs when he admitted to the crowd that he has never won this competition in the five years he has hosted this event, and this year was no different with one of the juniors sticking it to six inches from 114 yards away.
The three-round tournament began Monday with a Junior-am Fundraising Tournament to raise money for local charities and the AJGA’s ACE Grant. The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation endowed an ACE Grant in 2017 to assist juniors from the state of Texas with financial support on their road to next-level golf. Players also participated in practice rounds on Monday before the first round began on Tuesday. First, second and third round tee times ran from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
